On October 1st, an ad hoc group of breast cancer activists launched a social media day of activism called #BreastCancerRealityCheck. You can read more about it HERE, but to distill: It was a day for people affected by breast cancer to tweet their real experiences in order to countervail the pink feather boas and pink ribbon booze that tend to show up this time of year. In a “put your money where your mouth is” move, a panel of judges picked the one that best reflected the intention of the day and offered a donation to a relevant organization in the tweeter’s honor.
I’m quite honored to announce that I won – rather, that I tied for first – chosen from nearly 1,000 tweets. These are the winning tweets and in case you can’t tell, I’m @uneasykt.
A donation to METAvivor was made in my name. I chose METAvivor for lots of reasons but the main one was in memory of my friend, Rachel Cheetham Moro, who died of breast cancer on February 6, 2012. As you will see in her obituary, it was one of the organizations chosen for memorial donations.
Please, click the links above and learn more about the organization.
Much gratitude to PINC (Pink Is Not a Cure) for the generous donation.
